One in a Trillion: Pick Your Team and Conquer the World with Your Taps
In November 2016 I made a data set with one trillion decimal digits available for download. The digits are saved as zip-compressed text files in chuncks of one hundred billion digits. Each file has a size of 43.7 Gigabytes. In total you have to download more than 430 Gigabytes.
Since February 2019 you can download all decimal digits from my Google drive account at DECTRIS. These are the original files from my world record computation in the compressed format of y-cruncher. You need to compile the DigitViewer provided by A. Yee in order to read these files. Each file contains 200 billion digits and has a size of 78 Gigabytes. The total size is 8.8 Terabytes. If you encounter permission issues, this could be due to restrictions imposed by your domain administrator. I have verified that the files can be accessed when not being logged in with a google account.

After two years of the pandemic (March 2020 through February 2022), U.S. consumers spent $1.7 trillion online, $609 billion more than the two preceding years. Demand remained strong in 2021 with $885 billion in online spend, up 8.9% year-over-year (YoY). As the digital economy shifts to more personalized customer experiences, Adobe expects the annual online spend in the U.S. to surpass $1 trillion for the first time in 2022. And as the digital economy expands, new Adobe data reveals trends and new consumer shopping behaviors:
Of the $1.7 trillion spent by consumers, $32 billion was driven by higher prices. In other words, consumers paid $32 billion more for the same amount of goods. Online inflation, first observed in June 2020, has persisted for 21 consecutive months. The impact was most notable in 2021, where $22 billion of e-commerce growth was driven by higher prices compared to just $4.7 billion in 2020.
Note: if you're inclined to reproduce this chart, you can do it yourself by running the scrapers I provided in this GitHub repo. You can use it to get the file sizes you see above, as well as get URLs of all the files if you want to try to download some of them.
In the newly-released data, each "negotiated rate" (or simply "price") is associated with a lot of metadata, but it boils down to: who's paying, who's getting paid, what they're getting paid for, plus some extra fluff to keep track of versioning. The hundreds of billions of prices in the dataset (probably over a trillion) result from all the possible combinations of these things. Codes can have different types, or versions. Prices can have service codes. And so on.
A back-of-the-envelope calculation gets me a rough estimate of over 500B different prices, simply from counting how many prices are in each file, multiplying by the number of files. But this is just from the handful of insurers I scraped (and who were in compliance.) All told, the total number of prices could reach over a trillion.
Other payers are similar in their largesse. On UnitedHealthcare's page they list over 55,000 individual files for download. Together these make up 9TB of compressed JSON, or around 250TB uncompressed. By estimating how many prices there are per GB of compressed JSON, I estimate they've alone published around a 100 billion prices.
For something different, let's take a step back and look at some of the all-time most popular Android apps in the Google Play Store. These are the ones that Android's 2.8 billion active users have downloaded most frequently.
We're not going to include apps that come preloaded on stock Android devices. This means we're excluding Google Play Services (10 billion "downloads"), Gmail (9 billion), Google Maps (6.9 billion), YouTube (10 billion), and a few others. We also aren't including apps pre-installed on Samsung phones.
We've used AndroidRank's data to determine the estimated downloads of these popular apps listed below. The numbers in parentheses denote the placement change from July 2021, when we last updated this list.
It's not surprising to see Facebook as the world's second-highest downloaded app. Despite seemingly endless scandals, questionable privacy practices, and the #DeleteFacebook movement, it still reigns supreme and is one of the most popular Google store apps.
Instagram is yet another Facebook-owned app, which the company acquired in 2012. It is one of the most downloaded apps on the Play Store, and has significantly fewer negative reviews than its big brother, with just 28 million (out of 121 million) giving the app a single star.
It broke one billion downloads in July 2019 and has more than doubled in the following two years. If you are a creator on the platform, there are several methods you can try to get more fans and followers on TikTok.
You probably thought Candy Crush Saga would be the most popular game in raw downloads, but it comes in third. Regardless, 1.2 billion Android users love trying to line up different-colored candies. Maybe it's time to find a new hobby?
However, as a percentage of the total downloads on Android and iOS combined, that figure remains low. Is it time to start worrying about the app's future or does the slight increase in rank point to a possible revival?
Without budget cuts and reforms, the government will continue to produce large deficits. The deficit is projected to surpass one trillion dollars every year from now on unless Congress changes course.

Zoom has over 1,500 apps available for download on the Zoom App Marketplace (as of July 2021). The number of available apps has increased by more than 650% since January 2020, when only 200 apps were featured on the marketplace.
Released on June 10th, 2013, players have collected 90 trillion bananas and completed more than 216 billion miles running in-game, equalling a total of 3.4 billion hours spent playing the game. The announcement was accidentally made early by the developer back in April.

I know Google Big Query has a few publicly available datasets that are 100M+ (wikipedia, gdelt-events) and 1B+ (nyc-tlc) rows, but couldn't find anything larger. Does anyone know of a 1T-row dataset that can be either downloaded?
There are the benchmark wiki tables. It's got the biggest public table that I've seen. The largest table is 106B rows (6.76TB). If you really wanted a trillion rows, you could simply run 10* copy append jobs!

TikTok is only the second app after Facebook to cross 3 billion all-time downloads. As per the latest reports, TikTok was downloaded 246.9 million times globally as of the first quarter of 2023, which is a 19.7% growth from the fourth quarter of 2022.

In the Indian numbering system, 1 trillion equals 1 lakh crore. This Indian numbering system is followed in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan. 1 crore is equal to 10 million, and 1 lakh crore is equal to 1 trillion.
However, the research team made some encouraging findings, as well. Their updated analysis estimates there to be around 3.04 trillion trees globally, far higher than the previous estimate of 400 billion. On top of that, Plant-for-the-Planet estimates that 1 trillion additional trees would remove 25% of human-made carbon emissions each year.
The $32 trillion gross federal debt includes debt held by the public as well as debt held by federal trust funds and other government accounts. In very basic terms, this can be thought of as debt that the government owes to others plus debt that it owes to itself.
The size of information in the computer is measured in kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, and terabytes. In this section, we'll look at common sizes you would see in real life and learn how to reason about various numbers of bytes.Kilobyte or KBKilobyte KB - about 1 thousand bytesAs we know, 1 byte is one typed character - see below for why the phrase "about 1 thousand" is required hereAn email without images is about 2 KBA five page paper might be 100 KBText is compact, requiring few bytes compared to images or sound or videoe.g. 23,000 bytes is about 23 KBOne kilobyte (KB) is a collection of about 1000 bytes. A page of ordinary Roman alphabetic text takes about 2 kilobytes to store (about one byte per letter). A typical short email would also take up just 1 or 2 kilobytes. Text is one of the most naturally compact types of data at about one byte required to store each letter. In non-roman alphabets, such as Mandarin, the storage takes up 2 or 4 bytes per "letter" which is still pretty compact compared to audio and images.Megabyte or MBMegabyte (MB) - about 1 million bytesaka about 1000 KBMP3 audio is about 1 megabyte per minuteA high quality digital picture is about 2-5 megabytese.g. 45,400 KB is 45.4 MBOne megabyte is about 1 million bytes (or about 1000 kilobytes). An MP3 audio file of a few minutes or a 10 million pixel image from a digital camera would typically take up few megabytes. The rule of thumb for MP3 audio is that 1 minute of audio takes up about 1 megabyte. Audio and image and video data typically stored in "compressed" form, MP3 being an example. We'll talk about how compression works later. A data CD disk stores about 700 MB. The audio on a CD is not compressed, which is why it takes so much more space than the MP3. The series of bits are represented as spiral path of tiny pits in the silver material in the disk. Imagine that each pit is interpreted as a 0, and the lack of a pit is a 1 as the spiral sequence is read. Fun fact: the whole spiral on a CD is over 5km long.Math - You Try It 2,000,000 bytes is about how many MB?Show Solution2,000,000 bytes = 2 MB 23,000 KB is about how many MB?Show Solution23,000 KB = 23 MB (1000 KB = 1 MB) 500 KB is about how many MB?Show Solution500 KB = 0.5 MBGigabyte or GBGigabyte GB = about a billion bytesaka about 1000 MBGB is a common unit for modern hardwaree.g. 4000 MB = 4 GBAn ordinary computer might have: -4 GB or RAM -256 GB of persistent storageA DVD disk has a capacity 4.7GB (single layer)-Figure 2 GB per hour of video (varies greatly)A flash drive might hold 32 GBA hard drive might hold 750 GBOne gigabyte (GB) is about 1 billion bytes, or 1 thousand megabytes. You can buy 4 TB hard drives today, so we are beginning the time when this term comes in to common use. Gigabyte used to be an exotic term too, until Moore's law made it common.Gigahertz - Speed, not BytesOne gigahertz is 1 billion cycles per second (a megahertz is a million cycles per second). Gigahertz is a measure of speed, very roughly the rate that at a CPU can do its simplest operation per second. Gigahertz does not precisely tell you how quickly a CPU gets work done, but it is roughly correlated. Higher gigahertz CPUs also tend to be more expensive to produce and they use more power (and as a result give off more heat) - a challenge for putting fast CPUs in small devices like phones. The ARM company is famous for producing chips that are very productive with minimal power and heat. Almost all cell phones currently use ARM CPUs.Kilobyte / Megabyte / Gigabyte Word ProblemsYou should be comfortable doing simple arithmetic to figure MB / GB sizes, just as you should be able to do basic computations with second, miles, kilos and so forth.Basic plan: before adding measures X and Y, convert them to be in the same units.Word ProblemsSolutionAlice has 600 MB of data. Bob has 2000 MB of data. Will it all fit on Alice's 4 GB thumb drive?showYes it fits: 600 MB + 2000 MB is 2600 MB. 2600 MB is 2.6 GB, so it will fit on the 4 GB drive no problem. Equivalently we could say that the 4 GB drive has space for 4000 MB.Alice has 100 small images, each of which is 500 KB. How much space do they take up overall in MB?show100 times 500 KB is 50000 KB, which is 50 MB.Your ghost hunting group is recording the sound inside a haunted Stanford classroom for 20 hours as MP3 audio files. About how much data will that be, expressed in GB?showMP3 audio takes up about 1 MB per minute. 20 hours, 60 minutes/hour, 20 * 60 yields 1200 minutes. So that's about 1200 MB, which is 1.2 GB.
